According to my copy of "The Bible of Cuisine" (an elderly copy of "Larousse Gastronomique" from 1926) in a terrible state, covered with stains and drops of indeterminable sauces, gravies and other things....
"Bat. (chauves-souris) - Little mammal provided with membranous wings which enable it to fly, whose meat is esteemed in certain oriental countries - notably in China"
But then - what can you expect of a nation who cook soups from birds nests made with rubbish and the saliva of birdies...and actually even sell the soups.......at very high prices!
Apart from the soups, not even "Google" can give much information on "Recipes for Bats"
http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/bats-wings-with-drip-sauce-recipe.htm - let yourself be surprised......
Or - try this one and be even more surprised......

I hope the question has been amply replied to......any more?
