Espagne, Spanien, Spain....most people know it, most people have already visited it...some like it others detest it....too hot, too dusty, too full...of tourists!
Next time you go, if you do, try to find yourselves a typical "Tapas" bar, like the one above (in Madrid). They are to be found all over Spain, and maybe you should know before hand what a "TAPAS" really is!
These bars, dotted about everywhere are a staple installation in Spain. They are generally bars which present small dishes, constantly being topped up, of mainly local products - ready for "finger eating" - you may be served with a plateful, in other places you serve yourselves.....Unfortunately the old days of "FREE TAPAS" - for customers who popped in to take their "Apero" are generally gone, fallen foul of the massive Tourist influx, and certain Tourists who used them to basically replace normal meals - cheaply!
"Tapas" are in general, now payable items, although the prices still are very low, it would be a shame NOT to taste some of these little products, before passing to table (in the same establishment, if possible) and enjoying larger portions of similar dishes.
Nowadays they are sometimes lavish, with hot and cold products, always taken with a drink, normally wine, but nobody will frown upon you if you prefer a beer or even a soft drink.
A few localised, small bars do still limit themselves literally to local products, and the advantage of such places are that you will always find the REAL local colour represented, both in the products and in the Clientele!
Try them.....the probabilities are that you won't regret it....
